Congratulatory Remarks

Mr. Wei-Ming Hsu

Deputy Representative, Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Thailand

Superintendent Dr. Chen Mu- Kuan, Director Sirima Leelawongs, CEO Dr. Nina, representatives and participants from Taiwan and Thailand, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.

On behalf of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand (TECO), it is my pleasure to join this conference and speak today as co-organizer.

First, I would like to congratulate on the 125th anniversary of Taiwan's Changhua Christian Hospital. Since the establishment one century ago, under the spirit of "love and care see no border", the Hospital has been working with Taiwan's and foreign governments and medical centers to extend medical service to those in need. The Hospital has been committed to healing and saving the patients in Taiwan and the rest of the world, regardless of nationality, gender, income and religion.

Further, under our government's "New Southward Policy", the Changhua Christian Hospital is designated as a pivot center to promote the medicine and health cooperation between Thailand and Taiwan. Over recent years, we see many substantial cooperation developments on health policy, system, education and, most remarkably, agenda of Covid pandemic prevention and response measures.

Since the outbreak by early 2020, the Hospital has been working with Thailand's health sector to further the exchange and collaboration to share practice and expertise and to enhance the resilience of health care system, including medical manpower.

Taiwan and Thailand have been recognized for their excellent capability and proactive response amid pandemic dynamics. The medical personnel had contributed to keeping the system working all the time.

It is more than significant to see the representatives from Thailand and Taiwan to gather here to highlight the impact on medical education and system in the post-Covid era, as our doctors, nurses and medical workers are still fighting against the virus on the frontline outside. When the pandemic-fighting becomes a long-term struggle, it is necessary to "re-empower" and "re-equip" them with knowledge and practice updated. I believe, this conference will be producing good discussion and recommendation.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the frontline medical personnel for their persistent devotion to saving lives in Taiwan and Thailand. As a bridging role, my office, TECO, will continue to assist a closer collaborative partnership with Thailand.

As the pandemic situation is still risky, may you stay safe and healthy. Thank you.
